A Respectful Request

Greetings,

Consider with me the term, spiritual health from one of my reader’s entries in the spiritual ecosystem page on my other blog. Always remember the spirit, mind, body connection. It is part of spiritual health to be well-rounded and well versed in spirituality. It is healthy to look closely at a variety of different paths. Notice the differences between each, but do so from a standpoint of noticing where true concepts-born of the source-blend together.

Quite regularly, I visit meetings of a variety of traditions of both east and west. I simply have to say (with all due respect and peace to the world,) that hearing folks testify of evil just as much as they do of light is ridiculous. Drives me nuts! Makes me bat-guano-loopy, loop-scape batty-fertilizer like, (take your pick.) To go to a meeting that is supposed to be about community, hope, joy and optimism, and then, actually hear a lot of fear-based, devil talk is absurd.

Please remember that just as light and darkness do not mix, neither do fear and faith mix.

I submit that it is time to let the fearful stuff go and focus on light, life and love. Isn’t that what it’s all about?

Consider this: Religion=community. Spirituality=soul food-feasting for the individual. Both have a place. Both are needed. Both help to maintain balance, promote peace, and reduce harm. Both have a role to play throughout different life circumstances and stages. Please respect the individual need here.

But also realize that is not necessary to constantly remind of fear and evil. Be compassionate and patient as people start to learn and understand this.

Thank you for reading.Peace, hominy, hummus and humus

Religious Health Guidelines from the 1800’s

Greetings,

It was exciting to find some interesting insight on Vegsource.com! Local talent shines again, and it was under my nose all this time.

To my readers who are local, this will sound familiar. Living in Utah, being well acquainted with LDS culture, beliefs and particularly, the Word of Wisdom, it was exciting to see some people who have done some “zooming in on the details” here that was long over due on this religious health code from the 1830’s. The Word of Wisdom talks about animals, the environment and human health.

Sometimes these guidelines are called the “forgotten verses.” I have read this book and loved it; very insightful the health of humans, the planet and compassion for animals.

Some things really are best understood after some zooming in on the details. These are perfect examples. Since the author has done this very well, I will let Dr. Birch explain it from vegsource:

A Look at Schizophrenia

Greetings,

Schizophrenia is a thought disorder characterized by hallucinations, delusions and sometimes abnormal movements of the body, (catatonic movement.) Paranoia is also common in people with this disorder. The causes of Schizophrenia are not entirely understood. However, the cause is probably due to any combination of psychology, biology and culture. This is probably a large part of why the severity of symptoms can vary greatly per individual.

Schizophrenia means split mind. Yet, with this name, comes a common misconception that Schizophrenia is the same disorder as the split personality disorder, which is different from Schizophrenia.

The traditional treatment of Schizophrenia usually involves anti-psychotic medications and also cognitive therapy to assist with social and vocational problems that may have developed due to the illness. The medications can help to decrease symptoms such as crushing fear, or audio or visual hallucinations. Cognitive therapy is often helpful in addition to medications because it can help to correct habitual actions and thinking that can cause problems in day to day living stemming from flawed thinking. Some people with Schizophrenia respond favorably to medications. Others experience side-effects, with severity to varying degrees.

Symptoms are roughly classified into two different categories: Positive-meaning what was not present prior to onset, or added to the personality after the onset of illness, such as hallucinations and false beliefs (delusions). Negative-meaning what was taken away from the personality after the onset of illness, such as flattening of emotions or inability to enjoy activities previously enjoyed. In this reference, positive and negative has nothing to do with “good” or “bad”.
A person is not their illness. John or Jane Doe is not Schizophrenic. Instead, John or Jane Doe is a person wwith goals, dreams, likes and dislikes. This person happens to be affected by a brain disorder known as Schizophrenia.

As with any mental illness, there are many common misconceptions about Schizophrenia. Mental illness is about compassion, education and understanding.

Plant-Based To Starch Based

Greetings,

Dr. McDougall, author of The Starch Solution and founder of McDougall Wellness Center recommends starch-based language. The term plant-based may be vague and leaves much room for confusion. In my books, there is also the occasional reference to the healing properties of wild edible plants also. I apologize for my part in the confusion.

We people need calories to function. While that beautiful salad with kale, romaine lettuce and blueberries and a chia seed-vinegarette dresssing provides a fantastic, nutrient dense delivery to your cells; the nutrients are high, but the calories in this dish would me minimal. This meal would not suffice to provide needed energy throughout the day.

As for the reference to the wild edibles in Wellness Diaries and Life Is Conscious, if wild edibles are referred to on this site, I will be very specific. The references to a plant-based diet in the two books are referring to a starch-based diet with some nutritious, veggies and fruits.

While the nutrient density of the super food-Dandelion can hardly be beat; neither can the medicinal and pot herb value of Plantain, I will be very specific if wild edibles are referred to here. It is starch (rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes, breads, etc) that have the calories.

Dr. McDougall makes it clear that starch should be the staple to obtaining calories. Starch, it is not a bad word. Learn it straight from the source. https://www.drmcdougall.com/

“You are designed to eat starch.”

This shift will help people get on the same page as far as veg and plant-based diets are concerned: starch based diet. Potatoes, rice, sweet potatoes and some legumes would make up the bulk of the diet. These have served as staple foods for people throughout the world for thousands of years.

The ongoing debate has some valid points. Vegetables such as Kale, Collards, Broccoli may be loaded with nutrients, phytochemicals, including cancer fighting compounds. These are great to eat often, even daily. But these don’t contain enough calories to try and make them a staple food. People need calories. We are designed to move and be active. This is where the rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes and legumes come in. This starch diet has very little animal protein. There are thousands of meal possibilities with these staples. It is anything but limited.

Yes, you heard it. It is a myth that starch is bad. Starch is actually what people are physically and metabolically designed to eat.

Dr. McDougall’s starch based plan is a practical and sensible introduction to eliminating all the excess animal protein that is so grossly excessive in the standard American diet today. See Dr. McDougall’s website and book for fantastic recipes, informative dietary guidelines, and why starch is an ideal staple, eaten by people for thousands and thousands of years.

Education, researching and finding the facts for yourself is key. Please join us as we switch around the wording here as well as elsewhere. That is, replacing the plant-based term with starch-based. If I am referring to wild edibles on this site, I will be more specific. Again, all apologies for my part in the confusion on terminology.

Thank you for reading.

Eating Disorder Blog

Greetings,

As mentioned before, with every malady, from the individual to the collective whole of humanity there is an aspect of wellness that serves as the correction, the counterbalance to correct any and all imbalances. The individual has options available at hand in correcting any imbalances on their own.

It is also important to note that many imbalances start from the society level and often, any given imbalance is a society wide issue; with the origins of the problems being deep within society itself. Still, we as individuals have the power to choose from what one has to work with in his or her life to take steps in regaining balance, well-being and inner-peace.

Balance occurs in varying aspects all throughout spirit, mind and body.

Below is the link to a blog about one individual’s personal experience with an eating disorder-now recovered, with an insightful view. The blog author is Life Is Conscious artist, Laurana Bigler. Laurana shares her own experiences about her recovery from an eating disorder and offers unique insight.

Part of the concept here at Wellnessdiaries.com is remaining open to different perspectives, different parts of the whole considered as part of wellness as being about the individual. Peaceful, content individuals, genuinely comfortable with themselves expand outward, helping others to become the same to communities, societies and eventually the globe.

Fit for life the curvy way:

LIC Thought Of The Month

earth chess 001

If it is a man’s world, and all things from the past are called history, in the coming age, will it be a woman’s earth? Will it be called herstory? Shestory? Will it be written in past or present tense? Who will be recording it?

Bees in September

Greetings,

Remember that in the WD/LIC community, September is the month to remember the Bees! Please avoid using toxic chemicals and herbicides in your yard and garden. These chemicals are very harmful to bees. Bees are essential insects, and without bees, we people are in trouble.

Always, but this month especially, remember the bees.

Read about safe yard/garden alternatives on my eco-garden page:

Healing.

No matter how different from yourself your neighbor may be.

Greetings,

The Wellness Diaries and Life Is Conscious philosophy is about much more than health. It is about healing-including forgiveness, individuals, communities, societies to healing the globe. It expands. Truly, we have come a long way. Remember also, that forgiving doesn’t mean that wrongs are okay; it just means that as individuals and societies, we choose to no longer send them anymore anger/fear. We let it go. We take control of them, rather than them controlling us.

The concept is about meeting others half way, cooperation, no matter how different from yourself your neighbor may be.

We have come a long way.
